Comentarios Silvana Dussmann’s reputation as one of opera’s outstanding sopranos has been confirmed in the last year with acclaimed performances of Kaiserin (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at Aalto Musiktheater Essen, the title role in Norma at the Staatsoper Berlin, and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) at Vienna Staatsoper. Born in Vienna, Silvana Dussmann studied with Rita Streich and with Gerhard Kahry, and after winning first prize for operetta at the Vienna Belvedere Competition, she made her debut as Lisa in Das Land Des Lächelns at the Vienna Volksoper opposite Nicolai Gedda. Since 1994 she has been closely associated with the two leading Viennese opera houses: at the Vienna Volksoper she has been heard in numerous new productions and revivals including Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) and the title role in Norma; and at Vienna Staatsoper she made her first appearances as Rosalinde and Musetta. At Vienna Festival 1999 Silvana Dussmann caused a sensation as Rosalinde in the new production of Die Fledermaus conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt and directed by Jürgen Flimm. Recent roles include the title role in Norma at Staatsoper Berlin; Amelia (Un ballo in maschera) at Oper Frankfurt; Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito) for Oper Frankfurt; Chrysothemis (Elektra) at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Hamburg Staatsoper, Essen Aaltotheater, and Vienna Staatsoper; Kaiserin (Die Frau ohne Schatten) with Oper Frankfurt and La Monnaie; and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in Essen with Stefan Soltesz. In concert she has appeared as Norma in Munich, Frankfurt and Lisbon; Chrysothemis in Sao Paulo and at the 2006 Edinburgh International Festival; and Helmwige (Die Walküre) at the Gran Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona. Current season highlights include Amelia (Un ballo in maschera) at Oper Köln; the title role in Norma with Oper Frankfurt, and with Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon; and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) at Vienna Staatsoper on New Year’s Eve. Silvana Dussmann is also a much sought-after concert soloist. Her repertoire includes Bach’s Magnificat and St Matthew Passion, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Schubert's Mirjams Siegegesang, Verdi’s Requiem, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Amongst the conductors with whom she has collaborated are Bertrand de Billy, Asher Fisch, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Zubin Mehta, Arnold Oestman, Georges Prêtre, Stefan Soltesz, Marcello Viotti, Valery Gergiev and Simone Young. |
