Siegfried is the third of the four operas that comprise Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), by Richard Wagner. It received its premiere at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus on 16 August 1876, as part of the first complete performance of The Ring. This part of the opera is primarily inspired by the story of the legendary hero Sigurd in Norse mythology.

Norma is a tragedia lirica or opera in two acts by Vincenzo Bellini with libretto by Felice Romani after Norma, ossia L'infanticidio (Norma, or The Infanticide) by Alexandre Soumet. First produced at La Scala on December 26, 1831, it is generally regarded as an example of the supreme height of the bel canto tradition. "Casta diva" was one of the most familiar arias of the nineteenth century.

In a letter dated September 1, 1831, Bellini wrote to the soprano Giuditta Pasta that "Romani believes [that this subject] will be very effective, and absolutely ideal for your encyclopedic character, because that is the kind of character Norma has". Indeed, Pasta's vocal and dramatic range was encyclopedic: that March, she had created the very different Bellini role of Amina, the lyrically vulnerable Swiss village maiden, in La sonnambula.

In the 19th century, it was common for composers to interpolate arias of their own into other composers' operas. Richard Wagner wrote an aria for bass and men's chorus for an 1837 production of Norma.

The title role is generally considered one of the most difficult in the soprano repertoire. It calls for tremendous vocal control of range, flexibility, and dynamics. It contains a wide range of emotions: conflict of personal and public life, romantic life, maternal love, friendship, jealousy, murderous intent, and resignation. German soprano Lilli Lehmann once famously remarked on how the singing of all three Brünnhildes in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen in one evening was less stressful than the singing of one Norma.However, her less famous reasoning was that "When you sing Wagner, you are so carried away by the dramatic emotion, the action, and the scene that you do not have to think how to sing the words. That comes of itself. But in Bellini, you must always have a care for beauty of tone and correct emission."

Flo Sandon´s. Bome d’arte di Mammola Sandon, cantante italiana (1924-2006).Trascorse i primi anni di vita negli Stati Uniti, dove il padre svolgeva un’attività artistica. Qui prese il nomignolo di "Flo", abbreviazione di "flower", a sua volta ottenuto dalla traduzione in inglese di "Mammola", inteso come "fiore". Il curioso genitivo sassone applicato al cognome deriva invece da una banale svista tipografica sulla copertina di un disco, che fu poi ritenuta beneagurante e applicata per tutto il seguito della carriera. Tornata in Italia con la famiglia e stabilitasi a Roma, Flo scopre la passione per il canto, e lentamente si fa strada come cantante professionista. Nel 1947 ottiene il primo contratto discografico, e subito un promettente successo con la canzone Love letters. Entrata in seguito nell’orchestra di Gorni Kramer e poi di Federico Bergamini, esplode in popolarità nel 1950 con la canzone Verde Luna, altro grande successo discografico, ripetuto nel 1952 con le canzoni T’ho voluto bene (poi entrata nel repertorio di Nat King Cole) e El negro zumbon, tratte dalla colonna sonora di un film di grande successo, Riso amaro. L’anno successivo vince clamorosamente il Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo con la bellissima Viale d’autunno. Nel 1955 sposa il celebre cantante Natalino Otto, col quale inciderà un gran numero di duetti.

La sua carriera prosegue brillantissima per tutti gli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta, rallentando solo dopo la morte del marito, nel 1969. Impossibile dar conto della sua discografia, composta di centinaia di 45 giri e da non pochi raffinati LP. Cantante di grande musicalità, adatta a qualsiasi stile, dallo swing, al melodico, ai ritmi sudamericani ecc., ha attraversato ogni moda musicale apparendo sempre originale e moderna. Poliglotta, è stata la prima cantante italiana a esibirsi in varie lingue, sempre con perfetta pronuncia. Künneke studierte von 1903 bis 1905 in Berlin Musikwissenschaft und Literaturgeschichte. 1905 bis 1906 besuchte er eine Meisterklasse bei Max Bruch. 1907 bis 1909 war er als Korrepetitor und als Chorleiter am Neuen Operettentheater am Schiffbauerdamm tätig. Von 1908 bis 1910 arbeitete er zugleich als Dirigent für das Plattenlabel Odeon, 1910 bis 1911 war er Kapellmeister am Deutschen Theater. Nachdem seine Oper Robins Ende (1909) nach der Uraufführung am Nationaltheater in Mannheim an 38 deutschen Bühnen nachgespielt wurde, gab er die Funktion des Chorleiters ab.

Während seiner Kapellmeisterzeit bei Max Reinhardt komponierte Künneke für die Inszenierung des Faust II die Bühnenmusik.

Eduard Künnekes leichtbeschwingte Musik zeichnet sich durch Rhythmus und harmonische Stilbilder aus. Sein bekanntestes Werk wurde die Operette Der Vetter aus Dingsda (1921). Viele seiner Lieder sind noch heute Schlager.

Nach der „Machtergreifung“ der Nationalsozialisten wurde er am 1. Mai 1933 Mitglied der NSDAP (Mitgliedsnummer 2.633.895), wurde aber bereits 1934 wegen „nichtarischer Versippung“ ausgeschlossen, bestätigt 1936 vom Partei-Kreisgericht. Trotzdem durfte er mit einer Sondergenehmigung des Reichspropagandaministers Joseph Goebbels wegen des Propagandawertes weiterhin kompositorisch tätig sein.In der NS-Zeit schrieb Künneke weitere Operetten, Märsche und Filmmusiken.

Der Komponist war lange Jahre (seit 1926 – Uraufführung seiner Operette Lady Hamilton in Breslau) eng befreundet mit dem Dirigenten Franz Marszalek, der sich während seiner Tätigkeit am WDR Köln nachdrücklich für Künneke eingesetzt und zahlreiche Aufnahmen (von denen viele nicht mehr vorhanden sind) seiner Musik mit dem Kölner Rundfunkorchester, bzw. dem Kölner Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester eingespielt hat.

Er ruht auf dem Friedhof Heerstraße in Berlin, neben seiner Tochter Evelyn Künneke.
